Jo called me into the office a few minutes ago. What she wanted to show me was this spider, more than half an inch long. I am the designated spider-trapper (and bat-trapper as I employed the same method at a friend's house once to remove a bat, substituting a garbage can for the glass) so I quickly grabbed a glass from the kitchen and trapped it against the wall. We used a CD in a clear orange sleeve to hold it in while we photographed it, and moved it outside (far away from our apartment).
This seriously has to be the largest spider I have ever seen indoors. I rather like spiders as long as they are not huge and don't bother me. If I see one on the wall in the shower I will just leave it there. Others I just remove and put it outside. A guy I work with almost killed a tiny spider today, but I just picked it up and took it outside instead.
Here's our spider. We looked online (a google search for "big spider with white stripe" did the trick) and found out it is a Parson Spider (scroll down for the description). I didn't need to read about how they sleep in clothing and bite people. I hope he/she didn't move in here with a significant other…
ok… so I know I said I love spiders… but this one makes me totally creeped out. Really. I am stunned. I think I need to surf through flickr for a while to get that out of my head.

*shudder* ugh, you’ll be shaking out everything for weeks now!
Ah HELL naw. I’d move. I’d have to move. And I’d have to leave behind all the stuff in the room with the spider in it, no way I’d go near that thing.
Aww guys, come on, a half-inch spider? That’s tiny! You should see what kind of spiders there are
in Florida, where I grew up! The size of your hand (not the body, of course, but the circumference).
Believe me, you don’t want to be sharing a shower w/ Great-Grandma-Huge Wood Spider!
My baby brother had a spider bite him in his shoe when he was about a year and a half or two years
old. He wasn’t old enough to explain to us that his little foot hurt. We found a dead spider in
his shoe and a bite mark on his foot. You could hardly get the poort kid to wear shoes for months!
So I was surfing the web trying to find out what kind of spider I caught and this is the guy! I’m so glad I caught him! Scared me the other night, climbed up the wall right by the computer while I was checking my e-mail while feeding my one month old. I have him caught and sitting right next to my computer. Now I can look up more on this guy. Thank you!!!
Oh my gosh I found the same thing in my bathroom today and haven’t been able to sit still since. I sadly did not catch him. Spiders don’t usually creep me out like this thing did. Great blog post!
