It turns out Jo and I missed paddle to work day! I didn't even know such a thing existed until I read about it this morning online. People left from Starkweather Creek very close to where we are at 6:30am, and expect it to take them about an hour to row to the capital area. It would take about another half an hour to row to the university. The funny thing about Madison is that I could actually row all the way to work- by creek, lake, river and then to another lake. Too bad we missed it. What would I do with my canoe and paddles during the day anyway? I'll just have to take the bus as usual…
I changed my blog design with a great new WordPress theme that lets me customize the photo header. I love it. I could see the photo changing with the seasons and with travel. You can bet when I am in Maine I'll change it to the ocean. The possibilities are endless.
Yeah, the lakes and waterways here in Madison are very nice. They are one of the things we love about this "city". Someone told me that the largest lake reminded them of the ocean, and that it could be kind of a consolation for me being so far from the actual ocean. That is just entirely wrong. They're nice enough lakes, but they aren't anything remotely like the ocean!

I’m only three years too late (hope you’ve joined us for PtWD by now!) but you can leave your canoe/kayak in a number of locations during the day where you can secure them to certain stationery objects. Just posted photos from this year’s paddle on Facebook (Dane Waters).
As far as Lake Mendota being a facsimilie for the ocean… I have to agree with you. Lake Michigan **maybe** (or maybe it would just make you miss the ocean more) but not the Yahara lakes. They is what they is, and they ain’t what they ain’t.
